Meet the candidates

Keyford - You can vote for all three candidates in this ward

Kate Bielby

I’ve been a self-employed writer and editor for over twelve years. My husband and I run a small creative business in the middle of Frome. I’m a mum and a carer.

I’m standing as an IfF candidate because I feel strongly about the future of the town I love. I’d like to find ways of helping more people get involved in our community, including people who might normally struggle to do so.

I think I’m ideally suited to being a councillor because I am a little bit obsessed with the clearing up of litter and dog poo.

I’m an engineer and have lived in Frome for 13 years and have brought up my children here, who have attended Frome schools and nurseries.

I’m passionate about the built environment (Architecture, infrastructure) and am keen that it should be as beautiful and accessible as possible.

I work from home and walking my dogs in the Keyford area every day means I am approachable and able to respond to issues raised by residents. I’ve been a councillor for four years now and still feel excited by the possibilities of working with a creative and Independent town council with a wide range of skills and experience.

When ifF was first established it was personally a both frightening and exciting time. Working at the Cheese and Grain there was a massive threat to the job that I loved but it was so heartening to read the letters of support and to see people actually doing something to make a change.
Watching people engage with their community, with politics and a positive change for their town was inspiring. I would like to see the credit union extend it’s remit, am interested in the the town adopting the living wage and continue supporting Fair Frome.
